X setup

Greetings Debian folk,

I have a problem that I hope that you may be able to help me with. I am
not entirely new to Linux having run both Redhat and Mandrake over the
last year or so.

Having said that I am no guru either!

However I am totally new to Debian.

I have just recently installed 2.2r3 onto one of my systems. There is a
problem with setting up X.

The video card is a Gigabyte GA-620 (Nvidia Riva TNT2 chipset), AGP with
32 meg of ram.

When installing anXious was unable to detect the card and mentioned the
need to run xviddetect after the completion of installation.

xvidetect's output, last line reads

10de002d|i386|Nvidia corporation|Riva TNT2 Model 64

I have run xf86config and selected XF86_SVGA as the default X server.

After attempting to 'startx' I get the following messages.

X: exec of /usr/bin/X11/XF86_SVGA failed
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
giving up
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

My gratitude to anyone that can offer advice.

Regards

David Underwood
