the roaringpenguin site also has instructions for linux (<see
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/#inst>).  according to those
instructions:

tar xfvz rp-pppoe-3.0.tar.gz
cd rp-pppoe-3.0

# If you don't want the GUI
./go

# If you do want the GUI
./go-gui
