I think I can help on this one. In woody you get X 4.0.2, you need to run the
xf86config program to configure it again (3.3.6 files aren't compatible). Then
you need to symlink /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 to /etc/X11/X. Hopefully by the
time Woody is the stable release this symlink will be automatic.

I had the same problem and a few other annoyances, but that's why they call it
unstable. :)
