well that makes a difference... i'm sure :(

% locate plperl
/usr/share/doc/postgresql-doc/src/pl/plperl
/usr/share/doc/postgresql-doc/src/pl/plperl/README

that ain't much -- if i had gobs-o-source (as opposed to the debian apt
packaging system i spoze i could download an rpm or a tarball, but it
seems like a workaround) i could follow those instrux to get it working,
i think, maybe, on a good day.

what debian package contains the plperl.so module? what'd i miss?
