yes, i mean the mere act of apt-get dist-upgrade upgrading the grub
.deb will not actually make any changes to the active bootloader.
since the only files touched are in /usr/share/grub [1] which are not
used.  the active files which are used in /boot/grub are never touched
by the debian package.

[1] btw shouldn't that be /usr/lib/grub?  these are not exactly
archetecture independent files...
