still Cannot Open /dev/dsp device

I just realized my response below kinda makes it seem like the problem 
has gone away: but it hasn't.  When running 'xanim foo.wav', I still 
get the error 'Cannot Open /dev/dsp device', and I still need help
fixing that :)
