Help!! with modules
For some reason, I cannot get the modules loaded (or so it seems) with
kernel 2.2.17. I go through all the steps: make menuconfig make dep
make bzImage make modules make modules_install make bzlilo. I have
made sure that everything is selected, and kernel module loading is
enabled. Boot goes OK, but then I get a string of error messages from
insmod about modules that cannot be found. I have run modprobe, which
complains:
"Can't open dependencies file: /lib/modules/2.2.17/modules.dep (no
such file or directory)
/lib/modules/2.2.17 contains two directories only: net, with bsd_comp.o
and ppp_deflate.o in it, and misc, with zft-compress.o. Nothing else.
As an example, I have a D-Link Ethernet card that uses the rtl8139
chip. The source code for the driver is present in the kernel source,
but the compiled driver is missing.
Any ideas? I'm going crazy with this, and a search of the newsgroups
has yet to give me a satisfactory answer.
