No this is not normal.  According to Eric Troan in Linux Magazine (Feb.
2000), "This signal cannot be caught or ignored; it always stops the
process as soon as it's received."  Perhaps you would like to post some
code that shows how you do this.  I would bet that it's a bug of yours.
