To someone in your position it may seem thin, but it's probably
because you only need gsfonts if you want to view PS files that
use fonts (or, you may have your own PS fonts squirreled away
somewhere).

I use /usr/bin/ps2pdf, which is included in gs and gs-aladdin.

It's just a wrapper around gs (which supports PDF as one of its output
formats), but it saves remebering all those options...
