?  Okay I think we might have the problem, because you said "name" of
the ISP.  Here is my file:

search shadypond.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1

Yours should look something like that.
after nameserver, put the IP address of your ISP's nameserver, NOT
the literal hostname; it has to be numeric.

I see no problem here, only with the nameserver, if I understood
correctly.
