I agree. It's also the list members who have to put up with the
wasted bandwidth. In a perfect world, I'd like to see

To unsubscribe, send an email to debian-user-unsubscribe@lists.debian.org
Trouble? email ... etc.

and that would confirm in the usual way. That way, it doesn't matter
what they put in the subject or the body, or what platform they use
for email (quite likely not linux).

unsubscribe@lists.debian.org could eject you from the lot.

BTW you may need the second line to unsubscribe from lists when your
subscription email address has been changed for you under your feet.
