One of the more common alternate mappings is the "awertz" keymapping --
it's used somewhere in Europe, IIRC.  One way to figure out what's where
is to typ out the keyboard, eg:

 qwert yuiop
  asdfg hjkl;'
   zxcvb nm,./

...and see what ends up where.
