Re: dselect busted & oops, rm -r /etc

I got that same message, but I had thought it was due to me having
completly screwed my life by typing rm -r /etc/ instead of rm -r etc/.

I had a month old backup of /etc, and some things are broken now,
obviously. specifically, I see complaines about modules.conf, samba, and
lpd.conf. What should I do from here? Is there hope of rebuilding this
stuff? can I force a bunch of packages to reinstall and install default
config scripts. Or should I just wipe this partition and do a fresh
installation?
