Gary, thanks a lot for your reply. I'd like to seek another advice
then. For what I'll be using the card, a simple SCSI2 card would
suffice just fine (I'll have 3 devices on it: CD-R, CDROM, and a
scanner).

If chosing *only* from the point of view of compatibility and
stability, shoudl I get the 2940UW or 2940U? Would it matter at all?

I figured 2940UW, because it seems that the card is newer, and I
thought that it would be better.

So, which way should I go:

- save a few bucks and get a 2940U (which will be sufficient
  speed-wise)

- or get a newer (=>better?) 2940UW (which is an overkill, since
  I have no SCSI HDs, and don't plan on getting one.

I'm being a bit paranoid, because I can't use my current SCSI card
with a CD-R under Linux, so I want to be sure that the driver for the
card I get will be up-to date...
