netscape unusable --- nameserver/SOCKS_NS error
I used to be able to run netscape fine, but recently it's started
giving me an error at startup like:
""
Warning: the following hosts are unknown:
home.netscape.com
home6.netscape.com
internic.net
This means that some or all hosts will be unreaachable.
Perhaps there is a problem with your nameserver? If your site must
use a non-root nameserver, you will need to set the $SOCKS_NS
environment variable to the appropriate nameserver. Consult your
system administrator.
""
Netscape is the only program that I have used that have any kind of
trouble like that; everything else works fine. I can ping and
nslookup all of the hosts that netscape can't find. I don't think I'm
behind a firewall (which is the only reference I've seen to this kind
of error). How can I make it work again?
