Do you mean 'modules-image'? That's used if you have things like pcmcia or
alsa that should be recompiled at the same time as the kernel (they'll be
in /usr/src/modules/...)

Only when you have add-ons like alsa or pcmcia. A deb will be generated
for you to install along with the kernel deb (just like the
pcmcia-modules-x.y.zz available on the mirrors)
