There seem to have been ongoing problems with lpd in slink since day one.  I've observed it on three machines now, two of which lose the lpd daemon a couple of times a week, and another that was picking up an extra (which fails to print just as thouroughly).

Someday I'll get around to tossing in a cron script to chsck & fix status automatically, but not today :)
