This is controlled in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file. 

Within a block that looks like:

Section "Screen"
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth       32
        Modes       "1280x1024"
        ViewPort    0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection

Check the Modes line for the resolution. You can (and may already have) more
than one mode on the line. If so, "<ctrl> <alt> +" will allow you to
cycle through them while X is running.
