I don't know if 2.0.36 does, but 2.2.x does.  If you have not upgraded yet,
it's kind of fun.  If you have a file /proc/ide/hda/smart_values, then it
does (replacing hda with the appropriate name if neccessary).  However, I
don't know of any userspace support for it, so unless you happen to know
somthing about SMART, then it's probably not too useful for you.
