Apt will eventually replace dselect, but the frontend is currently
still in development. It needs both a terminal and X-windows based
frontends.

Until that day, apt can be used in conjunction with dselect as a method.
It can also be used as a command line tool (apt-get).

If you are chomping at the bit for the dselect replacement, you can
view (and try) the gnome-apt frontend at
http://www.debian.org/~hp/gnome-apt.html
