Re: Help with Hard drive error messages

I have had this message:
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:06, sector 1030230
with two hard drives, one of them brand new, so I do not think it means the
hard drive is coming to the end of it's life.

For me, it was the above repeated endlessly on increasing sector numbers.
I think it was due to my harddisk controller, (some Future Domain beast),
and because debian doesn't recognise the controller properly (it shows up as
the third ide channel after the two on the motherboard)

I found no solution to this problem, except to make sure that my hard drives
were on the first or second ide channel.

This was with the standard 2.0.34/5 kernel, and still when I recompiled it.
I think the slink kernel may have better ide channel support, but I haven't
tried it yet.
