Two idential root partitions - how?

Hi,

I'm installing Debian. I'm partitioning as follows:

100 Meg root partition
3 Gig /usr partition
100 Meg root partition - identical copy

This is just in case one root partition dies - I'll have a backup. What
is the best way to make the second root partition an identical copy?

Also, I want to make /home and /var soft links to the /usr partition. Any
problems doing this? Any more tips?

Thanks,

Mark.
