Re: 3Com 905B Cyclone not working

Hello All,

I had the same sort of problems with this card when I tried to use
it for the first time. First off, the ff:ff... problem can be fixed by
shuting down your computer and unplugging it (yes, physically unplugging
it). This needs to be done so that the system can reset itself properly
and the bad windoze initialization of the card will go away. This needs
to be done every time you go from Windoze to linux. If you don't boot to
windoze at all, a second way to fix this ff:ff.. problem is to unplug the
magic packet connector from your motherboard, assuming you have it and it
is connected. The magic packet thing messes with Linux really bad. If
this fixes that problem, but you still can't see the outside world, check
the assembly# and revision letter on your card. If the Assembly number is
something like ASSY-0152-XXXX, then the card is faulty and you should
return it. If the revision letter is less than 'C' (i.e. A or B) then,
most probably, it will not work and you should replace it. To force it to
the speed you want for your network, go to windows and run the config
program as was suggested eariler. Trust me on these solutions, I spent
many hours toiling over this problem.

HTH,

Steve
