[slightly OFF TOPIC] digital audio in linux?

Hi,

Suppose I want to do the following:

1) record music with my audio DAT-recorder
2) transfer it _digitally_ to the hard disk of a debian box
3) burn audio CD's of it

I know how to do 1) and 3).  Does anyone know what hardware/software
combo would enable me to perform step 2)?
