This weekend I figured out how to fix it. I had to add the line:
keycode 22 = BackSpace
to my Xmodmap file. When I did a xmodmap -pke to find out if BackSpace
was even defined, It wasn't. So I added it and all is good.
I have Debian 2.0 (fresh off the CD). And I did see the Xresources
information. I tried it out but it didn't seem to do anything. The
Xmodmap seemed to fix everything.
