Re: Help: Boot windows95 using LILO

Well, as far as I know W95 always requires the first hard disk to boot. I'm not sure about your configuration but I think this is the case. A good OS is presumed to deal quite well with a new hard disk...

My computer does have W95 in hda (C: -the first hard disk for MS-DOS) and it boots Linux (via LILO) from hdc1. Everything works fine and I have a cdrom on hdd and another hard disk on hdb.

I thank DOS sees the first Dos "fdisked/formatted" disk as C: and it does not matter if this is first primary or secondary IDE but it seems it's not the case.

The simplest solution: change fstab entries and change the cables on your board. Make W95 lives on first primary IDE and Linux on first secondary (I'm quite sure this does not make Linux your secondary OS...),
and run Lilo again so it can load from your first MBR.

A final remark: there's no performance loss if you put Linux on 1st or 2nd IDE. (And I'm wishing: if your W95 reffuses to load, does not this represent a performance gain?)
