If your internal network is firewalled, NIS would probably be your friend
here.  Both mail servers could share the same aliases file that would be
distributed using NIS to all mail hosts on the network.  This also keeds
administration easy since one edit on one master file "appears" on all
mail servers in the NIS domain.  Another way might be to push one master
aliases file out from the master mail server using tftp.

No special sendmail configuration would be required and addition of
another mail server in the future would be simple.
