Debian max file size is 1GB instead of 2GB?

Sorry if my previous post on this made it out as well.

It seems that on Debian, the maximum single file size on ext2fs is 1GB and
not 2GB.  Can someone confirm this, and suggest how to fix the problem,
if possible?
