get the slang0.99.34 .deb from the archive and install that one first.
then slang0.99.34-dev will work, then most will too.

If you use dselect then all these dependency problems get resolved by
dselect before they get a chance to bite you. It is not entirely trivial
to get it to work on packages that you've already downloaded though. But
if you can ftp to the net, then using dselect's ftp method is a breeze.
