I tried this yesterday and it indeed gives that error, probably because I
have ncurses3.4-dev installed.

Apparently `make menuconfig` breaks because it is confused about the new
headers. It is very simple to fix; just do:

  cd /usr/src/linux/scripts/lxdialog
  make clean all
  cd /usr/src/linux
  make menuconfig

and it will work fine again.
