Nah, just look at xwd (from xbase, I guess), that will dump any window.
(Unfortunately to a rather strange format, that only xv understands).
Or, just look at xv itself, and try the "grab" button.
Oh, and for fun: try this with a friend who's got "xhost +":
xwd -root hostname:0 | xv -
(hostname being your friend's hostname).
