What a coincidence. I have just purchased (I got the thing only two
weeks ago) a Gateway Solo 2100. For a total of $3138 I got a P120,
32MB ram, 1GB disk, 10x cdrom, floppy, battery, 12.3 active matrix
screen, leather case, pcmcia 33.6 modem/fax, pcmcia 3Com 3c589D
combo e-net adapter. (Oh, it has an ESS1888 sound 16-bit wav + midi
internally.) I also got some headphones.
I installed buzz (I'm no glutton for punishment) and everything is
now working except the Midi port (standard sound is working--I play
Quake on this baby). Getting the modem and ethernet working was
actually a *snap* (I dl'd the pcmcia-cs and pcmcia-modules packages,
set one variable in /etc/pcmcia.conf). I also have X working. It
could hardly have been easier.
Go to http://www.gw2k.com and price one out for yourself!
