I see I should have underlined "any" :-) 
Two 486 boards I've got support 8K8, 16K8, ... 128K8 cache chips.
256K (most common cache size AFAIK) on them can be done with 32K8 
and 64K8, with either 16 or 32K8 for tag.  Plus the chips come in
12, 15 and 20 uS variety...

It should be nice to have 512K cache even with < 64MB I think;
I haven't seen any benchmarks though.
