Well.  Acording to the doc's the cache settings do effect the boot process of
the install disks.

Read through the files on the rescue floppy and see if there are any
references to your current lilo etc...  It may have somehow configured your
existing partition for boot.  Sounds like the floppy is handing off to the
hard drive.
