Hi,
This just happened to me, too. It turns out that you need to include the
XTerm-color resources to have ls use the colors. What I did was:
Include the following line in either .Xresources or the system wide Xresources
#include </usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm-color>
Restart the server and if you were using xterm_color and haven't changed
anything, your colors should be back. If not, remember to use
eval `dircolors`
alias ls='ls --color=auto'
alias dir='ls --color=auto --format=vertical';
alias vdir='ls --color=auto --format=long';
