I have an old PC XT-compatible hooked up to my 486 with a null-modem
cable. I added a getty for it (COM2 == ttyS1) in my /etc/inittab file:

#  <id>:<runlevels>:<action>:<process>
0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 19200,9600 ttyS1 vt100
