SCSI support, SCSI _disk_ support, SCSI _cdrom_ support, SCSI _generic_
support, SCSI _tape_ support and SCSI _controller_ support are all
discrete units. You _MUST_ check whether this is so.

Look at /usr/src/linux/.config and check whether CONFIG_CHR_DEV_ST
is set to "y" or "m". If it is "n", then you have NO SCSI tape support.
