The support for the AIC-7XXX chips is still changing. Your AIC-7870 may
work better with the April 30 boot floppy. This is currently available
in ftp://ftp.i-connect.net/debian/unstable/disks-i386/ .
It should make it to ftp.debian.org later today. Also, only the
1440_boot_floppy.gz has the newest driver. The 1200 version is an older
kernel because I could not get the modules from the newer one to fit on
it. We're working on that.

I have a SCSI controller based on AIC-7850 that only recently started
working with Linux.

Please write back and tell us if this hardware works with the latest
boot floppy.
