That's enough for the download -- the binary tree is only 94MB. You
could fit the entire debian-0.93/ in there, source and all, it only
comes to 224MB. Here's how the binaries break down:
2902 binary/math
606 binary/admin
5748 binary/base
1811 binary/comm
23822 binary/devel
1470 binary/doc
8670 binary/editors
346 binary/electronics
2793 binary/games
1159 binary/graphics
166 binary/hamradio
2968 binary/mail
1992 binary/misc
6143 binary/net
697 binary/news
426 binary/shells
514 binary/sound
7652 binary/tex
5723 binary/text
18699 binary/x11
1 binary/binary
94499 binary
And as for /usr, I think 500MB is plenty. I only need 360MB with
practically everything installed, including 60MB of local, non-Debian
software.
795 /usr/X11R5
53204 /usr/X11R6
522 /usr/X386
0 /usr/adm
40172 /usr/bin
404 /usr/dict
25152 /usr/doc
23 /usr/etc
1907 /usr/games
0 /usr/gnu
1 /usr/hosts
4675 /usr/i486-linuxaout
3988 /usr/include
6583 /usr/info
133288 /usr/lib
58325 /usr/local
12 /usr/lost+found
14196 /usr/man
12515 /usr/private
3900 /usr/sbin
0 /usr/spool
856 /usr/src
0 /usr/tmp
360516 /usr

I wish I knew an easy way. I only know these figures because I mirror
the distribution, so I can do a du on my local drive. Another way
might be to do a "ls -lR" and calculate the total by hand.
The total size, just a few days out-of-date, is 779,845 MB. I wonder
how that would fit on a cdrom. :-)
