Jeffrey Ebert: Now that I have things reasonably configured, I log in from xdm every time as myself and do my root stuff from a rxvt using su. Hmm.. I have a soft link pointing at .Xauthority in my home directory (from /root/.Xauthority), and I can run arbitrary root applications under X. -- Raul
