When I had that problem, it appeared to be the manual index databases were
corrupted - I got a seg fault after every 'man -k foobar'. Try rebuilding
the databases with 'mandb -c', which should cure it. Possibly this should 
be introduced in cron.monthly (there's already a mandb command in 
cron.weekly, but it only updates the databases.)
