Gracias por la respuesta, ya habia hecho eso y olvide poner la respuesta de

b# scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/par/HP_LaserJet_1100?device=/dev/parport0' is a 
Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_1100 all-in-one

como puedes ver, no reconoce el scanner, solo la impresora conectada al 
puerto paralelo y utilizo xsane para escanear, y siempre me devuelve lo 
mismo:

"Fallo al abrir dispositivo 
'hpaio:/par/HP_Lasejet_1100?device=/dev/parport0': Error durante E/S de 
dispositivo"

Que otra cosa podria hacer?
