¿Qué es lo correcto, al instalar Etch por primer vez? aptitude install
x-window-system o aptitude install xorg
También alguien me puede aclarar cual es la diferencia entre esos dos
paquetes. Tengo una IBM ThinkPad y quisiera que me ayudaran porque

Mira... no estoy seguro, pero creo que cuando haces apt-get install x-window-system estas instalando xorg... yo ultimamente estuve teniendo algunos problemas con ese tema e instalé y desinstalé varias veces, probe instalando xserver-xorg y x-window-system y todo parecia funcionar igual... ya te digo, cuando instalaba x-window system instalaba xorg. para resolver tus errores, probá con dexconf (probablemente no se arregle todo al primer intento) y en cada paso echale una mirada a tu archivo xorg.conf (/etc/X11). Lo mio se arreglo cuando reemplace el xorg.conf original por el generado por dexconf (/root/xorg.conf.new), que es muuuuy distinto. Pero igual tuve que hacerle algunos retoques al archivo.

PD no dejes de comentarme como te fue... y si tenes problemas con el tamaño de pantalla, a mi me arranca de entrada en en 1280x800 en vez de 1024x768, pero como hay una herramienta de kde para cambiar el tamaño (solo por esa sesion) todavia no me he puesto a buscarle la vuelta...
