X11 (reloaded)

Hola
hace algunas semanas envie un email por el tema de x11, bueno aca va otro de nuevo.
EL primer temas es q no podido cambiar la resolucion del escritorio, lo
tengo en 640*480 y la segunda es: Como hago para que, logueado en un
kterm como root, pueda abrir por ejemplo el kedit. Antes lo hacia y no
habia problema, pero ahora me tira este error: kedit: cannot connect to
X server
