Problema al intentar compilar mcatalog 0.1

Hola a todos!

Estoy intentando compilar este programa pero me peta el configure cuando
busca el paquete mono:

checking for mono >= 1.0... Package mono was not found in the pkg-config
search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `mono.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'mono' found

configure: error: Library requirements (mono >= 1.0) not met; consider
adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are
in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.


Mono esta instalado con el apt y no encuentro mono.pc por ningun sitio. 

Alguien sabe lo que tendria que hacer?
