modulos en 2.6.1

hola:

acabo de compilar el kernel 2.6.1, pero al arrancar,
da problemas con los modulos, si los quiero insertar
manualmente (con modprobe o insmod) me dice:

modprobe: QM_MODULES: Function not implemented

Modprobe: Can't locate module xxxxx

o con insmod:

xxxx: no module by that name found.

Pero si estan los modulos en /lib/modules/2.6.1/,
aunque todos son .ko y no .o.

Alguna idea de que estoy haciendo mal?
