Italienisches kbd und Umlaute

Hallo alle!

(alles unter Debian/sid)

Ich habe ein italienisches kbd auf meinem laptop, und moechte mir
	R-Alt a		Umlaut-a
	R-Alt u		Umlaut-u
	R-Alt o		Umlaut-o
Bisher hat das auch immer mit folgendem .Xmodmap unter gnome funktioniert:
	keycode  30 = u U udiaeresis Udiaeresis udiaeresis Udiaeresis
	keycode  32 = o O odiaeresis Odiaeresis odiaeresis Odiaeresis
	keycode  38 = a A adiaeresis Adiaeresis adiaeresis Adiaeresis
Jetzt ist gestern hal erneuert worden, gnome hat sich irgendwie ueber
das kbd gewundert, und jetzt ist alles anders. Es geht nicht mehr.

Wenn ich obiges xmodmap lade, dann bekomme ich IMMER (!!!) die Umlaute
und kann keine a/u/o mehr eingeben.

Hat da wer eine Idee wie man das machen kann?
