GeForce 7400 ID ist drin, was damit geht, kann ich allerdings nicht
sagen. Probiers aus. Mit vga=normal booten, dann modprobe
nvidiafb (klappt nur, wenn das nvidia modul nicht geladen ist), 
fbset.

Für Deine Auflösung könntest Du fb.modes(5) brauchen.
Und /usr/share/doc/fbset/FAQ.gz.
