Für den Fall, das Du die Familie mit IT KnowHow aus der Ferne supporten
möchtest.... es gibt etwas besseres als x-forward oder VNC: FreeNX

Somethink I found yesterday: FreeNX
(I haven't tested it, not yet - sorry.....)

NX from NoMachine.it or just the free
part FreeNX (GPL) is much smarter then
a compessed ssh with X forward or vnc
It use compression and caching so a 64/128kBit/s line should
allows you to work with normal GUI programs.
(Of course no video, games...) So to offer 
OpenOffice.org via Internet for the AEGEE-Network
should be possible ;)
