gettext und squirrelmail

hi liste,

ich habe ein kleines "sprachen problem" mit squirrelmail. das ganze soll mit
gettext zusammen und da wollte ich frage wie ich dort die sparche einstellen
kann. im untenstehenden text hat mir einer geschrieben das ich locales de
installieren soll das hab ich mit dpkg-reconfigure locales getan doch
irgentwas passt noch nicht

hier ein auszug aus einem mail an mich wegen dem problem von squirrelmail:

gettext needs to have the de locale files on the system for it to
  work. Some users have found that their install of certain
  distributions didn't always install it. Consult the documentation on
  how to install new locales, and install de, then try again.
